Updates from the ACM India Council: First Half 2025

Greetings from the ACM India Council!
As we march on towards the second half of 2025, it is a good time to summarize the highlights of our activities and present a sneak peek into the upcoming events and activities.
We warmly welcome Dr. Lipika Dey as an ACM India Council member for a period of one year from 1 July 2025. We thank Prof. Shweta Agrawal for all her contributions to the Council activities and look forward to her continued support. Dr. Lipika will replace Prof. Shweta in the ACM India Council.
Our flagship Annual Event 2025 and the co-located events of ARCS and ACM India-W Summit concluded successfully early March in Coimbatore, with the awards ceremony being the crown jewel of the event. Hearty congratulations to the awardees and grateful thanks to the jury and the award sponsors. We also take this opportunity to announce a brand-new award, ACM India Outstanding Applied Innovation in Computing award. Look out for the calls for nominations for all the awards soon!
Our industry and education webinars continue regularly with an increasing online audience. A bootcamp on AI Development Lifecycle concluded in the month of May at IIIT-Bangalore. ACM India has launched a new initiative, Industry Day, another venue to foster active learning and interactions for the students in our Chapters. Several activities with the student and professional chapters continue to attract many applications and attendees.
More than 250 students and research scholars attended the ACM India Summer Schools, continuing the benefit of learning and interaction with researchers and faculty.
On the research support front, we have 34 ACM India Anveshan Setu fellows so far this year, some visits completed, some ongoing and a second call for applications coming up soon! Many PhD students have benefited by interacting with more than 35 fantastic mentors cutting across various topic of CS / IT. If you are interested in speaking with a mentor, request for a slot with a mentor here. Hundreds of young UG and PG students have attended multiple Research Opportunities in Computer Science (ROCS) interactions days, lookout for a ROCS in or near your city!
As we sign off with updates from the first half, we just ended the Grad Cohort 2025 for women research scholars at IIT Kanpur, an Industry Day at Pune and are marching on with the CTiS conference for Computational Thinking in Schools at IISER, Pune and finally, our first ever team of high-school students from India are headed for the finals of the International AI Olympiad!
